p-video-upscale

Make a low-resolution video sharper and bigger with Pruna’s p-video-upscale.

Give it a video and pick a target resolution. It returns an H.264 MP4 at 720p, 1080p, 2K, or 4K. The output keeps the shape of your source video, and if the source has audio, the audio is copied over unchanged.

Use it to bring old footage up to modern resolutions, clean up clips from video models that generate at lower resolutions, or get a 4K master out of a 480p draft.

How it works

The model takes a video and a target resolution. It upscales every frame and adds detail rather than just stretching pixels, so edges, textures, and faces come out crisper.

The targets are pixel-area presets, not fixed frame sizes. A 16:9 clip at 1080p comes out at 1920x1080, but a vertical or square clip keeps its own aspect ratio at roughly the same number of pixels. A clip that’s already bigger than the target isn’t shrunk.

By default the output keeps the source frame rate. Set fps to change it. If you pick a higher rate than the source, the model creates the in-between frames, so you can turn a 24 fps clip into smooth 60 fps motion.

Inputs

  • video (required): the video to upscale, up to 512 MiB.
  • target: output resolution, 720p, 1080p, 2k, or 4k (default 1080p).
  • fps: output frame rate from 16 to 60. Leave it empty to keep the source frame rate (up to 60 fps).
  • turbo: faster runs with slightly lower quality. It doesn’t change the price (default off).
  • enable_safety_filter: check the video against the content policy. When it’s off, only the always-on categories (sexual content involving minors, and self-harm intent or instructions) are blocked (default off).

Limits

How long your clip can be depends on the number of frames the model has to process, not on a fixed duration:

Target Max processed frames About this long at 24 fps
720p 2,400 100 seconds
1080p 1,200 50 seconds
2k 600 25 seconds
4k 300 12 seconds

Up to 30 fps, every output frame counts. Above 30 fps, only 30 frames per second are processed and the rest are interpolated. Clips past the limit are rejected. Use a shorter clip, a lower target, or a lower fps.

Tips

  • Try turbo while you’re testing settings, then turn it off for the final version.
  • Go to 60 fps for fast motion like sports, action, or camera pans. Keep the source frame rate for anything that should look like film.
  • For long clips at 2K or 4K, split the video into shorter pieces to stay under the frame limit.

Pricing

You pay per second of output video. The price depends on the target resolution and on whether the output is up to 30 fps or above 30 fps. turbo doesn’t change the price. A 60 fps source is billed at the above-30-fps rate even if you leave fps empty, because the output keeps the source frame rate.
