Unofficial community packaging. ToonOut is the work of Matteo Muratori and Joël Seytre — we are not affiliated with them, and we earn nothing from this endpoint (compute fees go to Replicate). We hosted it because no public ToonOut endpoint existed. Authors: if you’d like this changed, transferred to you, or taken down, tell us and we’ll comply immediately.

ToonOut — anime-specialized background removal

This is a hosted endpoint for ToonOut (paper), a BiRefNet fine-tune for anime/toon matting by Matteo Muratori and Joël Seytre — all credit for the model belongs to them. Weights: joelseytre/toonout (MIT).

BiRefNet is strong on photos but struggles with stylized content — hair wisps, line art, translucent elements. ToonOut lifts anime-set pixel accuracy from 95.3% to 99.5% (authors’ test set).

  • Input: any image (character art, generated sprites, anime frames)
  • Output: RGBA cutout, or raw alpha matte (output_format: "mask")
  • resolution: 1024 matches training
