Metamorphoses Reimagined: Scientific Illustration in a Speculative Future

This model, part of the project Metamorphoses Reimagined by Lina Lopes, is trained on 46 illustrations by Maria Sibylla Merian (1647 - 1717), a pioneering naturalist and scientific illustrator. The goal is to generate images that echo Merian’s iconic style while exploring speculative scenarios of a parallel universe or future. In this imagined world, insects and plants undergo metamorphoses infused with technology, blending nature and innovation into surreal, yet scientifically inspired, compositions. This model enables users to create prompts that reflect the delicate precision of Merian’s work, reimagined through the lens of speculative storytelling and hybrid ecologies.
